Packaging / Design
This limited edition pack of the first two Robocop films is presented in 2 standard keepcases within a doublesized slipcase style box.
The cardboard box has a metallic finnish and is slightly embossed on the front.
All in all, not very special keepcases but the slipcase box is a very nice design and certainly elevates this twin pack above the rest.
Disc contents / Extras
The first film is presented in a pretty standard 1 disc special edition which comes with all the same features as the other MGM special editions done for this film around the world.
The film is presented in it's unrated director's cut version, which is a big plus, but it seems that the regular cut is not included (a lot of special editions included both versions via seemless branching but this one does not - or maybe it does, but I just havn't been able to find it).
The extras for the first film feel a bit short but they're still quite enjoyable.
And in comparison to the extras on the second disc they're overly interesting as the second film has nothing more to offer than a minimalistic Robocop 2 trailer.
All the menus on both discs are entirely in japanese and all exras come with optional japanese subtitles.
Sidenotes
Disc specs for the first film appear identical to most other special edition releases from the same time and the second film is also just the same as pretty much all other regions. And so there's no real reason (disc-wise) as to why one should choose this set over another region.
Note also that there is a new 20th anniversary edition for the first film released these days (on several regions), which has a few more extras and also comes with a DTS track. A true fan should probably upgrade to the 20th anniversary edition instead.
Visitors Comments
Haha. Yeah, I guess not. I didn't really think about it but you're right :) I looked it up and the box set was released in 2006.
In the youtube video you say you believe the set was released prior to the third Robocop movie. Well, Robocop 3 was released in 1993, I kind of doubt you could buy ANY dvds back then.
