Packaging / Design

This case is not insanely luxurious but it's definitely classy. The discs are held in deep cutouts made in the thick hardcover of the press kit book. This is not a new idea but it's really well done on this set (probably the best way I've seen this done so far).

The outer cardboard sleeve comes with three horizontal cut outs and though this is a nice touch the slipcase itself is surprisingly thin even if it gets the job done.

And finally, there a glossy little black sleeve featuring 21 art cards (they're all black on the back side by the way). I think this set certainly comes off as the one of the best looking releases done for this film so far (just looking at the packaging that is).

Disc contents / Extras

The first disc holds very little except for the feature film but on the plus side, all the menus are in english and thus navigation is a piece of cake.

As for disc 2, here we have a feature length documentary entitled Lynch One (total running time 01h 25m 28s). Granted, this is probably the best documentary footage you can get on the MAKING of Inland Empire but it's actually more of a documentary about David Lynch in general and also widely considered as a separate piece (and not just a regular making of so to speak) so I was still hoping to see some more special features on this release.

But as you can tell from the specs listed on the left, there's really not a lote else going on. The documentary is great, but there's a whole bunch of bonus material released on other regions that's nowhere to be found here - all though the other regions don't feature the Lynch One documentary so it's still a pretty even race.

So if you're a real Lynch fan you'll probably want to pick up several editions of this film as no two editions seem to be the same.

Sidenotes

The director of the bonus documentary Lynch One has chosen to remain anonymous and is credited only as "blackANDwhite".

Lynch One appears on imdb entitled as only "Lynch" and without any director attatched to it. Very little info is given about the film at this point but you can always keep an eye on the offical website for possible updates.

This is the first ever dvd release of Lynch One so far but I wouldn't be surprised to see this thing getting a world wide release pretty soon so it shouldn't be thaught of as something exclusive to the Japanese market (or atleast not for very long if you ask me).
