Packaging / Design

This set comes with the coolest box design for the Indiana Jones trilogy by far. The accompaning book binder has a detailed Indiana Jones logo cut into it, and lots of pockets and slots on the inside (it's actually quite a good book binder if one wants to put it to use as something more than a dvd set).

The accompanying medallion replica (which is a a bit smaller than the screen used version) has a pearl in the middle that seems to change colour depending on the temperature (this is a wild guess as I really don't have a clue as to what makes it swap - but the difference is amazing, meaning that it's not just a minor nuances but a total switch).

The slipcase box is very sturdy and slightly embossed with some structure on the front cover. The digipacks looks great as well and it's just an overall very well made set.

Furthermore: The digipack box can be put into the binder if you wish to do so, but it was never built to support this a specific way - meaning that it just like any other book binder and it's got metall hooks to hang paper sheets on, but it's still big enough to encase the dvd box if this is something you'd prefer.

Disc contents / Extras

On first glance, the discs seems pretty boring with almost zero extras for each film... but when you get to the last disc of the set, you happily realize that they've jam-packed this disc with nothing but special features, and they've filled it up well.

There's a 3-part making of documentary divided onto each of the three films. This features a whole bunch of footage from different time periods and is really quite an extensive package.

Following this up are a small line up of extra featurettes that take into account anything that might not have been covered in the making of documentaries.

All in all, the only thing missing would be some audio commentaries and deleted scenes, which would make this set a perfect ten.

Sidenotes

This release was sold in a variety of different forms. First off, there was the standard version which featured only the dvd box (the digipacks, slipcase and booklet). Then there was a the dvd box and just the medallion, the dvd box and just the book binder, and finally, there was the dvd box with both the book binder AND the medallion.

An interesting side note about this purchase; I got this set on ebay after it went OOP and had to purchase TWO sets in order to get both the binder and the medallion. However, as it turned out, the ebay seller just forwarded the sets from a store that still had some in stock and when they got lost in the mail, the store sent me replacements box sets for free.

In the end, ALL the sets turned up after a lot of time. So I got 4 sets for the price of two and ended up selling the 3 extra sets for far more than I spent initially. Granted it took me about three months before I actually got the dvds, but it was well worth it anyway.
